New Delhi: Prabhasimran Singh's century (103 runs) and Harpreet Brar's spin magic (4 for 30) helped Punjab Kings win by 31 runs against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2023 match. With this, Shikhar Dhawan's team kept the path to the playoffs alive. However, David Warner's men are officially out of the knockout stages of the tournament.
The Delhi Capitals team failed to chase down the target of 168 runs given by the Punjab Kings in the 59th match of the IPL tournament held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium here. Apart from Delhi captain David Warner (54 runs), the rest of the batsmen failed.
Especially Punjab's Harpreet Brar, David Warner, Philip Salt, Riley Rosov, and Manish Pandey got out four important batsmen. He gave 30 runs for 4 overs bowled and took 4 wickets. Even though the Delhi Capitals team completed 20 overs, they were restricted to 136 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Earlier, the Punjab Kings team, who lost the toss and batted first, scored 167 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs on the strength of Prabhasimran Singh's century. By that, the opponent Delhi Capitals team was given a competitive target of 168 runs.
Prabhasimran Singh's maiden century
At one end, leading batsmen including Shikhar Dhawan, Philip Salt, and Jitesh Sharma had surrendered wickets. But, at the other end, Prabhasimran showed an explosive batting performance. In the 65 balls he faced, he scored 103 runs with 6 massive sixes and 10 fours. By doing so, he scored his first century in his IPL career. By that, the Punjab Kings team was saved from danger.
Ishant Sharma, who had the best bowling attack for Delhi Capitals, gave 27 runs and took two wickets. Akshar Patel, Praveen Dubey, and Mukesh Kumar took one wicket each.
