Jaipur: Gujarat Titans, who played an all-around game, secured the top spot in the points table by defeating the host Rajasthan Royals by 9 wickets. Also, the defending champions have taken a step toward the playoffs with a total of 14 points. The Titans team has 4 more matches to play and even if they win 2 out of 4, they will easily reach the playoffs.
An easy run-chase
Chasing a target of 119 runs to win, Gujarat Titans did not hesitate anywhere. Although the opening batsman Shubman Gill scored 36 runs off 35 balls, he put on a partnership of 71 runs with Wriddhiman Saha for the first wicket. While Saha remained unbeaten on 41 runs CDC, skipper Hardik Pandya, who batted at number 3, batted furiously and scored an unbeaten 39 runs off 15 balls with 3 fours and a six each. As a result, the Titans won in 13.5 overs.
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took the lone wicket for Rajasthan Royals. The failure of the team's batting department was the main reason for this defeat. This is the worst defeat for Rajasthan Royals in the home country in the remaining overs.
The Titans fell short
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Rajasthan Royals completely failed to respond to the onslaught of the spinners of the touring team. Rashid Khan (3 for 14) and young leg-spinner Noor Ahmed (2 for 25) weaved a spin net and preyed on the hosts' batters. Apart from captain Sanju Samson (30), none of the other batsmen crossed the 20 mark. As a result, Rajasthan Royals were all out for a paltry 118 runs in 17.5 overs.
Royals take the toss
Hosts Rajasthan Royals were looking for another win at home against their arch-rivals, Gujarat Titans, to climb to the top of the points table. Thus, Hardik Pandya-led GT was looking forward to avenging their defeat against RR in the last match. Sanju Samson, the captain of the Royals, chose to bat first after winning the toss.
The Royals made a difference
Rajasthan Royals have made a technical change in their playing XI. To take advantage of the spin-friendly pitch, it has dropped fast-bowling all-rounder Jason Holder and replaced him with leg-spinner Adam Zampa to increase its spin strength. On the other hand, Gujarat Titans, who dropped Shubman Gill because of his bowling, will use the star batsman as an impact player only for batting.
