Chattogram: Despite the failure of the top-order batsmen, with the strength of Shreyas Iyer (82*) and Cheteshwar Pujara's (90) partnership of 149 runs, the Indian team scored 278 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the first innings at the end of the first day of the first Test match in 90 overs.

Shreyas Iyer and Cheteshwar Pujara supported the Indian team on the first day after winning the toss and electing to bat in the first Test match which started on Wednesday at the Zahoor Ahmed Chaudhary Stadium here. However, the pair of Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer who joined for the fifth wicket showed a wonderful batting performance. The pair put on a 149-run partnership to bail the team out of trouble. Cheteshwar Pujara, who showed a brilliant batting performance, scored 90 runs off 203 balls with 11 boundaries. However, Taijul Islam was clean-bowled before the century.

A pant may not score a half-century in this match. But he achieved 2 special milestones in this inning of 46 runs. First, Pant completed his 4000 runs in international cricket.



Second, Pant has managed to hit 50 sixes in Test cricket. Pant became the first wicketkeeper to hit 50 sixes in the shortest innings for India.
