Kolkata: The all-round host Kolkata Knight Riders played a bold game under pressure and secured a thrilling 5-wicket win against the dangerous Punjab Kings. With 5 wins out of 11 matches played so far, KKR remains alive in the playoffs race by staying at the 5th position in the points table with a good net run rate.
Chasing a challenging target of 180 runs for victory, the KKR team did not get a start to claim. Opener Jason Roy (38) did not convert the start he got into a big innings. However, captain Nitish Rana made the victory easy for the hits team with 51 runs in 38 balls.
Andre Russell, who burst at the end of the innings, scored 43 runs off 23 balls with 3 fours and sixes each for hit's victory. Especially in the 19th over, a hat-trick six against left-arm speedster Sam Curran changed the outcome of the hit match. Rinku Singh's unbeaten 21 off 10 balls brought the hit team to victory. Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar took 2 wickets for Punjab but could not save the team from defeat.
